1933 - Born this day, Shani Wallis, in England. This red-headed singer and actress played Nancy in the Oscar-winning musical Oliver! (1968).

1946 - Born this day, Al Green [Albert Greene], in Forrest City (St. Francis County), Arkansas, singer, 1971 UK No.4 single Tired of Being Alone, 1972 US No.1 and UK No.7 single Let's Stay Together, 1974 UK No.20 single Sha-la-la (Make Me Happy, 1975 UK No.18 album Al Green's Greatest Hits. In 1976, he bought a memphis church and was ordained pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle.

1951 - Born this day, Max Weinberg, rock drummer, (Bruce Springstein) E Street Band, 1975 US No.23 single Born To Run.

1955 – Louis Johnson (from The Brothers Johnson) was born this day.  He is the grand-daddy of slap bass playing and had 2 monster hits with “Strawberry Letter #23” (1977) and “Stomp” (1980) with his brother George.  Played on Michael Jackson hits “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough”, “Billie Jean” and many others.  Nicknamed “Thunder Thumbs”

1982 - David Crosby of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash, was arrested for the second time in three weeks with drugs, this time in Dallas.

1985 - We Are the World, written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie and performed by USA for Africa, shot up to Number 1 on Billboard's record charts and stayed there for 4 weeks.

1991 - Londonbeat went to No.1 on the US singles chart with I've Been Thinking About You, it was a No.2 hit in the UK.
