1947 - Born this day, Peter Ham, vocals, guitar, The Iveys, Badfinger, 1970 UK No.4 single Come And Get It. Committed suicide on 23 April 1975.

1948 - Born this day, Kate Pierson, rock vocals, guitarist, B-52's, 1979 UK No.37 single Rock Lobster, 1990 UK No.2 and US No.3 single Love Shack, 1994 UK No.3 single Meet the Flintstones, from the film The Flintstones.

1951 - Born this day, [Paul] Ace Frehley, in the Bronx, New York, guitar, vocals, Kiss, 1974 US No.5 single On And On, 1976 US No 11 album Rock and Roll Over spent 26 weeks on the chart. 1987 UK No.4 single Crazy Crazy Nights.

1959 - Born this day, Sheena Easton, in Glasgow, Scotland, singer, 1980 UK No.3 and 1981 US No.1 single Morning Train, Nine To Five.

1967 - Sandie Shaw was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with Puppet On A String, her third UK No.1 and the Eurovision Song Contest winner of 1967.

1975 - Pink Floyd played the last of a four night run at Los Angeles' Sports Arena. A total of 511 fans were arrested over the four nights for possession of marijuana.

1976 - David Bowie was detained on a train trip from Russia to Poland after Nazi books and mementoes were found in his luggage (research for a project).

1980 - Nearly three years to the day after it opened, New York's Studio 54 disco closed.

1981 - Former Beatle Ringo Starr, married Barbara Bach at the Marylebone Registry Office in London. Paul McCartney and wife Linda, George Harrison and Harry Nilsson were in attendance.

1991 - Christian singer Amy Grant started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with Baby Baby. It was a No.2 hit in the UK.

1994 - A man was arrested after breaking into Ace Of Base singer Jenny Berggren’s home. Jenny was asleep at the time and woke up to find the man above her holding a hunting knife.
