1941 - Born this day, Eric Burdon, in Walker, Tyneside, UK, rock singer, Animals, 1964 UK No.24 single Baby Let Me take You Home, 1964 US and UK No.1 single House Of The Rising Sun, 1965 UK No.3 single Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, 1965 UK No.2 single We Gotta Get Outa This Place.

1957 - Buddy Holly & the Crickets auditioned for Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts TV program, but were rejected.

1964 - While on a UK tour The Rolling Stones were refused lunch at The Grand Hotel, Bristol, where they were staying because they were not wearing jackets and ties.

1970 - The Long And Winding Road from the Let It Be album was released by The Beatles.

1972 - John Lennon appeared on the US television Dick Cavett Show, claiming he was under surveillance from the FBI.

1974 - Born this day, Ryan Adams, singer, songwriter, 2001 UK No.53 single New York, New York. Infact OJ discover’s in 2009 that Ryan infact was born on November 5th 1974.

1974 - Led Zeppelin met Elvis Presley after the King's concert at the Los Angeles Forum (Robert Plant and Elvis launched into an impromptu version of Love Me).

1981 - Died this day, Bob Marley, who took reggae music from the slums of Jamaica to the stages of the world, died in Miami, Florida of cancer (brain tumour) at the age of 36. Always politically engaged, Marley used his fame to further the cause of black rights around the world. The dreadlocked Rastafarian had many hits with his group the Wailers.

1985 - Madonna went to No.1 on the US singles chart with Crazy For You.

1985 - UK producer and keyboard player Paul Hardcastle, started a five week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 19. The title refered to the average age of American soldiers in the Vietnam war.

1990 - 31 years after his death, Ritchie Valens was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

1991 - Roxette scored their fourth US No.1 single with Joyride, inspired by an interview with Paul McCartney who said that writing songs with John Lennon had been like a Joyride.

1999 - After two years of work, Columbia Records released Latin heartthrob Ricky Martin's fifth album, a self-titled cross-over to English. This album was a calculated decision, and the album's first hit, Livin' La Vida Loca shot to the top of the charts. Martin's third and fourth solo efforts went gold. His fourth album Vuelve had sold more than 6 million copies worldwide.

2009 – Confirmation today that AC/DC will play 2 NZ shows.  Wellington on January 30 and Auckland on February 6.  The band which was formed in Sydney in 1973 have sold over 200 million albums worldwide.
