1949 - Born this day, Bonnie Raitt, Grammy Award-winning singer, actress, musician, guitarist, Blues singer, songwriter, slide guitarist.  Had top 5 US hit in 1991, Something to Talk About. Was married to actor, Michael O’Keefe in 1991 and divorced in 1999.

1954 - Born this day, Ricki Lee Jones, singer, songwriter, 1979 UK No.18 single Chuck E's In Love.

1961 - Born this day, Leif Garrett, actor, singer, 1979 UK No.4 single I Was Made For Dancin'. The teen idol went on to have numerous problems with drugs and alcohol and in 1979 crashed a car leaving his best friend a quadraplegic.  In September 2006 won “Celebrity Fear Factor” and first prize of US $50,000.  Afflicted by the “Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” curse.  Those who appeared in the 1978 movie saw their careers dive.  Just ask Peter Frampton!

1967 - The Foundations were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Baby, Now That I've Found You', the group's only UK No.1.

1968 - Cynthia Lennon was granted a divorce from John.

1969 - Something the first Beatles a-side composed by George Harrison entered the UK singles chart, it reached No.4 in the UK and No.1 in the US.

1971 - Led Zeppelin released their fourth album. With no title printed on the album, and generally referred to as Four Symbols, The Fourth Album or Led Zeppelin IV, it has gone on to sell over 37 million copies worldwide. The 19th century rustic oil painting on the front of the album was purchased by Robert Plant from an antique shop in Reading, Berkshire, England. The 20th century urban tower block on the back of the full gatefold LP cover is Butterfield Court in Eves Hill, Dudley, England

1974 - Connie Francis was raped in a Long Island, New York motel.

1975 - Elton John became godfather to John and Yoko Lennon's son Sean.

1975 - David Bowie made his US TV debut performing 'Fame', on the Cher CBS-TV show.

1977 - Suzi Quatro began her role as Leather Tuscadero on ABC-TV's Happy Days.

1980 - KISS kicked off their 11 date Unmasked Tour of Australia and New Zealand laying two nights at Perth Entertainment Centre.

1985 - Born this day, Jack Osbourne, son of Ozzy and star of MTV The Osbournes TV Show.

1986 - Taken from the film Top Gun, Berlin started a four week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with Take Your Breath Away.

1994 - Doctors in Los Angeles said rock musician David Crosby had been placed on a national waiting list for a new liver.

1998 - Robbie Williams scored his second UK No.1 album with 'I've Been Expecting You'. The album which featured his UK No.1 hit 'Millennium', went on to become the UK's best selling album for that year with sales now over 2.5m.

2000 - Spice Girl Mel C made a foul-mouthed attack on Westlife, calling them 'a useless bunch of talentless tossers' and 'as hyped-up shit'. Mel made the attack during The Spice Girls party to launch their new album Forever.

2006 – Britney Spears files for divorce from husband (and wanna be rapper!) Kevin Federline.  Spears, 24 wed Federline, 28, her former backing dancer, in Los Angeles in September 2004 and they have 2 children.

2007 - Four men were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice after Police raided a house in Camden, London belonging to singer Amy Winehouse. The arrests were in connection of a court case involving Ms Winehouse's husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who faced charges of causing grievous bodily harm.

2008 - AC/DC started a two-week run at #1 on the US album chart with 'Black Ice' the bands fifteenth studio album and the second-best selling album of 2008. Black Ice went to #1 in 29 countries, including Australia, Canada, the UK, and the US.

2011 – Michael Jackson’s doctor, Dr Conrad Murray, is today convicted of involuntary manslaughter after a trial that painted him as a reckless caregiver who administered a lethal dose of a powerful anesthetic that killed the pop star.  He faces a sentence of up to 4 years in jail and losing his medical licence.
